Q.
Do you keep turf in stock?
A. No, all your turf
is cut to order to ensure your turf arrives as fresh as possible.
Q.
Is your turf suitable for heavy duty family use?
A. Warfield Turf supply a hard wearing grade with mid range maintenance
and contains top quality grasses.
Q.
How often do I need to feed my new lawn?
A. You should feed your lawn every 4-6 weeks throughout the growing
season. Using a fertiliser will ensure your turf
gets off to a great start. Spread a fertiliser sparingly over prepared
ground, laying your turf on top and watering immediately. This will
encourage fast rooting. Take caution as too much fertiliser can
damage the grass.
Q.
Do I need to use topsoil beneath my turf?
A. You only need topsoil
if your existing soil is of poor quality or you need to make up
levels.
Q.
How should I care for my new lawn once it's laid?
A. Keep applying water during establishment. Mowing can begin after
1 and a half to 2 weeks or when turf
has rooted. For best results mow regularly and reduce the length
of grass a little at a time to a height of about 2 - 3cm. During
long dry periods allow grass to grow slightly longer. Your lawn
will benefit from regular feeding and a selective weed killer to
control annual weeds.
Q.
Do you have a minimum order?
A. Turf, topsoil, mulch
and compost can be purchased with no minimum order for collection.
Small deliveries are dependant upon your locality.
Q.
What is your delivery area?
A. Warfield Turf supply many areas including Ascot, Sunningdale,
Bracknell, Crowthorne, Henley, Maidenhead, Newbury, Reading, Slough,
Sandhurst, Windsor, Wokingham as well as Buckinghamshire, Surrey,
Hampshire, Middlesex and London.
Q.
Do I have to be at home when delivery is made?
A. Not necessarily, you can arrange delivery details when placing
your order by phone.
Q.
How is turf and topsoil delivered?
A. Turf is delivered kerbside and is hand lifted off. However order
drivers are helpful and will try to unload your turf
where you wish should it not cause too great a difficulty. Topsoil
is delivered loose and does not come in bags. This is why Warfield
Turf can offer you soil at the best prices around.
Q.
How much notice do I need to give for delivery?
A. Normally Warfield Turf ask for a couple of days but next day
delivery is usually ok.
Q.
How much is delivery?
A. If Warfield Turf charge you a delivery charge this will be calculated
by quantity and delivery destination.
Q.
Do you provide a laying service?
A. Yes - please contact us to
arrange a viewing for us to give you a quote.
Q.
Do you supply other products?
A. Warfield Turf supply various ranges of turf
and top soil as well as wood chippings, mulch, farmyard manure and
compost.
Q.
How often should I water my turf after laying it?
A. Warfield Turf want your lawn to get off to the best
possible start - and watering your new turf
is a key part of that. Your new lawn will take up to 6 to 8 weeks
to establish itself. For the first 2 to 3 weeks your lawn will need
watering at least once a day - particularly in dry spells - either
by rainfall or using a sprinkler. After that the idea is to gradually
wean it off over the next 6 weeks, by watering every 2-4 days. If
you continue surface watering on a daily basis, there's no encouragement
for the roots to drive deeper in search of water, which leaves a
lawn less able to cope with warm dry periods.
Q.
How do I lay turf?
A. Warfield Turf can do everything from beginning to end,
so you don’t have to lift a finger. Alternatively please read
our laying turf webpage.
Q.
How much soil do I need to lay turf?
A. Warfield Turf recommend a minimum depth of about 3", ideally
6" of good quality topsoil.
It is important to dig over or rotovate the soil to break up compaction
as a well prepared soil will encourage deep, rapid rooting of your
new turf. If you
need to improve the existing soil we supply a soil and green waste
mix which will give your lawn the best possible start.
Q.
When is the best time of year to lay turf?
A. You can lay turf all year
round, however it is best to avoid laying
turf in frosty conditions. During extended periods of hot
dry weather extra care and attention to your newly laid lawn will
be required.
Q.
My new lawn is very soft. Should I use a roller on it?
A. Warfield Turf do not recommend using a heavy roller on you lawn.
This is because used incorrectly a roller can do more harm than
good, as it can cause compaction. If your lawn is a little soft,
avoid walking on it and it will usually firm up after it has rooted
a little more and been mown a few times.
Q.
What is the best turf for shady gardens?
A. Warfield Turf would recommend our RTF
Turf for shaded gardens.
